Hendriks Cognac & Wine – Crows Nest, Sydney

Hendriks Cognac & Wine is a cosy and casual bar located in Crows Nest, containing drinks of all sorts on placed along the walls that you’d think they had every alcoholic drink in the world. It is notably known for its cognac (duh!) and enormous wine collection.

The Hunter Jaffle – $23

The Jaffle was perfectly cooked to be golden and crispy on the outside with a substantial amount of fillings. The fillings were a nice temperature when served which is always a worry due to our tongue burning jaffle experiences in the past.

Chunky chicken pieces, porcini mushrooms, creamy french cheese, german
bacon cooked in cognac, 3 cheese blend, served with brandy drizzle. The cheese came oozing out after the first bite whilst complimented with its fillings… and it just never stopped. We loved this dish and would come back to try the other jaffles on offer.

Shiraz Duck Butter Pate with Barossa Bark – $12

Personally we cannot say no to duck pate…ever. Super creamy and full of flavour, accompanied with crispy crackers which were very delicious on their own. The only thing is they didn’t give enough crackers for the amount of pate! But the staff were very friendly and happily gave us a whole new plate of them for free.

Cheeseburger Spring Rolls – $11

The Spring Rolls were very crispy on the outside with soft fillings. The flavour did not have a strong cheeseburger flavour, overall very subtle to the state where we had to think hard about the cheeseburger flavour before we really tasted it. Perhaps we were expecting a McDonalds style cheeseburger, but it was delicious nonetheless.

The Henk – $19

We had to get their signature drink which contains Cognac, Cointreau, Fireball, Fresh Orange, Fresh Pineapple, topped with prosecco. I can tell exactly why this was their main drink. Full of fruity flavours and a high quality cognac to give it that perfect twist. This is a must-get drink if you have to choose from their never-ending list.

Hennessy Guava – $18

This drink was a lot stronger and less sweet compared to The Henks. It contained – Hennessy Very Special, Guava Juice and Strawberry Slices. The Hennessy Guava was refreshing but was less on the fruity side (the guava was very subtle).

OVERALL

Service – Helpful and friendly staff that made us feel very welcomed. The staff were knowledgeable with the Cognac and wine list.

Decor/Atmosphere – Bar was neatly presented with their full selection of spirits and wines. Just being there made you want to drink more and more.

Flavour – Perfect for meat and cheese lovers, very filling meals and not the sort of selection of foods you find around Sydney without digging into your pockets

Price – On the pricey side but fair value for the quality food and drinks we received.

Wow Factor – Would have to be the Jaffle, crispy on the outside and full of goodness inside. The Henk signature drink is also a must have!

Final Verdict – 8.5/10 – We both loved it and definitely will be back
