Bar

Botany View Hotel – Newtown, Sydney

We heard this bar was under new management and they’ve surely done a great job in attracting customers. We met up with one of the managers Rion who gave us a great tour of the place.

From the outside it looks like a standard corner pub but once you’re inside, it’s a giant multi-level venue. It almost felt like a maze!! It has multiple bars, pool tables, open mic karaoke , pinball machines, trivia nights, live music and daily events to tickle your fancy. It has a really pristine rooftop area if you prefer some fresh air and sun which we would love to chill at next time we come.

If you’d like, you can hire private rooms for free (about 10 people minimum I believe) for a birthday party, to gather together to watch sports or to just catch up!

Happy hour is $5 house spirits from 7-9pm Sunday to Thursdays.

The food is generous and very large portions. We had the Chicken Liver Pate, Chicken Parmigiana, Pan Fried Barramundi, Fries (p.s the aioli sauce was on point!) and a Cheese Board.

The Chicken Liver Pate was silky, smooth and absolutely divine. There was a generous amount of sourdough given to dip into the pate. We loved how the sourdough had a hint of olive oil too!

The Barramundi’s skin was lightly salted and crispy. The puree cauliflower, broccoli and peas matched well with the soft barramundi.

Another main we got, the Chicken Parmigiana was massive with a side of salad and chips! The meat to the crumb ratio was good and the sauce complimented well. We would also definitely recommend the fries to share. It was perfectly salted, fried and the aioli sauce was delicious!

Cocktails are also wonderful at a reasonable price. We had the Fcuk Yoga and SAS drink.

Oh might we mention it’s dog friendly too. Saw at least 5-10 dogs behaving there, so for you pet owners, you are welcome too.

We went on a Tuesday night and had a wonderful night despite initially winning and then falling from grace. They use a company called Trivia mafia who we never played with despite being trivia nerds. We had an energetic and friendly host (I think her name was Sam but could be wrong) who kept the vibes lively throughout the night. The questions started off easy but got harder (perhaps to lure you into a false sense of security) The bar offers generous trivia prizes $50, $25 and a bottle of wine for the top 3 teams respectively and includes a jug of beer to be won between the 3 rounds.

We definitely would come back here and would recommend to anyone to come for a good time out with lots to offer and ownership that care about being the best in what they do.
